I lost my job a month ago and the following days were spent on job-hunting and going through all kind of interviews. The unpaid bills and rent just pushed me into a dead corner. I needed to have some money coming in or else I would probably end up being evicted.
A couple of days ago, I was running to an office for an interview and on my way there, I saw a little girl hovering at a street corner, she seemed anxious and worried. It reminded me of one time I almost got lost when I was about her age, six years old or so. Fortunately, someone helped me.
I stopped and asked her what was wrong. She told me with her sweet voice that she was separate with her mother, there were a lot of people and she dragged the wrong hand. When she realized she could not remember how she got herself into this trouble.
She seemed hungry so I bought her a hamburger and inquired about her mother, what her height was and what she was dressing and was there anything special about her, or should we call police. I was running late because of the traffic now I was even later because I could not leave her there, what if there was any abductor who had targeted her as the mark? When I recalled the incident years ago the pores all over my body would be feeling nerves, what if I would never see my mother?
I accompanied her there waiting for her mother, the police or any of them. The interview was no longer the case bothering me; I just wished this girl could find her mother like I did. Finally, about twenty minutes later the police arrived, I left my telephone number telling them if I could be any help, feel free to call me. I rushed to the office only to find the interview was over.
I lost a precious opportunity, but I never regretted of having helped her. On the following Christmas holiday I got a gift, it was a pair of Ugg boots with a note attached to it, written with a child’s handwriting were the words: to the person with a bright heart. I leaned against the wall and read it carefully; tears and moments of joy filled my eyes with shining light. It took me a lot of effort to find a job but I was not feeling down and despair at all when the odds were not on my side, I already got reason to be strong, besides the bright heart just did not give up easily.
